Student Leadership

"It takes the best in each of us to bring out the best in all of us."

At Juniper Ridge Elementary, all grade 6 and 7 students participate in a leadership program. We believe that everyone has something worthwhile to contribute to the school, whether it's working one-on-one as a reading buddy, helping a peer through a difficult time, building school spirit, assisting in the office or on the playground, making announcements, recycling, or helping out in the community. Early in the year all of our grade 6 and 7 students develop team building and communication and leadership skills. A number of our leadership students also attend the District Student Leadership Conferences at Henry Grube Education Centre.

Students meet with sponsor teachers and their leadership groups every two weeks during class time, and on their free time as needed. Throughout the year, they develop leadership skills by rotating through a series of jobs:

Community Service ~ extending service outside of the school (e.g. UNICEF Fundraising, Kamloops Food Bank, Free the Children, SPCA)

Peer Helpers ~ helping other students in classes with reading, writing, art and other subjects

School Service ~ office helpers, library helpers, lunch supervisors, equipment room caretakers

School Spirit ~ school dances, fun days, theme weeks, playground games, contests, friendship activities, etc.

"Do all the good you can by all the means you can in all the ways you can in all the places you can at all the times you can to all the people you can as long as you can." ~ John Wesley
